Have students watch Video 1 before class. Ask students to prepare a drawing of one living and one non-living thing on a paper after watching the video.
Ask students to prepare a video of maximum 2 minutes explaining their choices of living and non-living things and send it through the platform the school uses.
Write the following questions on a shared whiteboard screen. Have students reply in the chat box or by raising their hand. Hold a small discussion.
- Are you alive? The dog? the butterfly? The tree?
- Why do you consider yourself a living thing?
- How do you consider a thing as living?
Have students do the Kahoot assessment (Link 1) at the end of the first session (or whenever you see fit depending on your time and class).
Send the students that living things are things that grow, feed, breathe, reproduce and respond to surroundings. All the other things that they will not grow, reproduce, and breathe are considered non-living things (you can send this in a voice note).
Ask students to check their drawings from the day before and if they want to fix it or if it was correct. Ask students to practice writing the word living and non-living and give an example of each. Send feedback to students on their work. Send Worksheet 1 for homework. Have students send you a picture of their answers on the platform the school uses.
